Roy Allen Alberson, 81, of Las Cruces died Sunday, July 15, 2007. He was born November 24, 1925 in Mesilla, NM to James Frank Alberson and Florence Irene Berrier Alberson.

He attended schools in Mesilla, NM and Las Cruces before entering the US Navy in 1943. He served in the South pacific during WW II for 33 months. Upon returning home to Las Cruces, he continued his education and graduated from Las Cruces High School in 1947. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Las Cruces and a member of the Mesilla Valley Model Airplane Club for over 40 years. He was an avid fisherman who loved to fly radio control airplanes and make friends wherever he went. On June 28, 1947 he married Oma Grace (Corkey) Hensley in Las Cruces. He was employed as an electrician for Stahmann Farms, White Sands Missile Range and finally for the Las Cruces Independent School District. He retired as head electrician from LCISD in 1988. Mr. Alberson was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be deeply missed by all his family and friends who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Corkey of the family home; daughter Kathy Alberson Wingfield and husband Fred of Phoenix, AZ; sons Allen Alberson and wife Karen of Yorba Linda, CA and Charles (Chuck) Alberson and wife Janna of Stephenville, TX; six grandchildren Michael Wingfield of Phoenix, AZ, George, Samantha and Patrick Alberson all of Yorba Linda, CA, Chad and Alyssa Alberson of Stephenville, TX; brother David Alberson and wife Pauline of Radium Springs, NM; sister Irene Alberson Swartz of Des Moines, Iowa; sisters-in-law Ann Alberson of Shawnee, OK Jeannie Alberson of Las Cruces and Minnie Topliff of Mesilla Park, NM, as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Roy was preceded in death by his parents and by 3 brothers Kenneth, James and Robert Alberson.

A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at Getz Funeral Home. Funeral Services to celebrate his life will be at 11:30 AM on Wednesday July 18, 2007 also at Getz Funeral Home with Dr. Maurice Hollingsworth of First Baptist Church officiating. The US Navy and the Ret. Marine's the Devil Dogs will provide military honors. Burial of cremains will take place at a later date at Masonic Cemetery.
