Mr. Wickard was a World War 1 veteran earning both the Navy Good Conduct medal while serving on the USS Arkansas and the World War 1 Victory medal. His obituary reads from the Anderson Herald of Anderson, Indiana:
Omer O. Wickard, 75, of Fairgrounds Road, died at 5:30 Thursday (July 2, 1970) at the Dickey Nursing Home after an extended illness.
He was born Aug. 22, 1894, to William and Mary Joanna Schickley Wickard near Elwood.
He was a Navy veteran of World War I. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Masonic Lodge and First United Methodist Church. He was a retiree of the Elwood fire department, where he served for 27 years.
His first wife, the former Nellie C. Marks, died in 1927.
He is survived by his widow, Bessie Knoax Wickard, whom he married in 1932. Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Barbara Wilson of Elwood; two sisters, Miss Mary Wickard of Kokomo and Mrs. Helen Anlte of Lebanon; and several nices and nephews.
Funeral arrangements are pending at the Copner and Fesler Funeral Home.
