Everett J. Ormsby was born on Thursday; June 2, 1921 in Mason City; Cerro Gordo County, Iowa. He wa the son of Thomas J. and Olive (Grady) Ormsby. Everett began his education in a one-room country school in Hancock County, Iowa. The family moved to Mitchell County, Iowa and he graduated from Little Cedar High School in Little Cedar; Mitchell County, Iowa. He attended Columbia College (now Loras College) in Dubuque; Dubuque County, Iowa one year and graduated from Iowa State University in Ames; Story County, Iowa where he was a member of Phi Kappa Fraternity. Following graduation, he was employed by the Army Corps of Engineers at Rock Island; Rock Island County, Illinois and Honolulu; Honolulu County, Hawaii. He served in the US Army in Louisiana and Hawaii. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Iowa and began a long career as a registered civil engineer and land surveyor and as an estimator, project manager on many construction projects in Central Iowa. Everett and Mary Morris were married on Saturday; May 20, 1950 at Saint Anthony's Church in Des Moines; Polk County, Iowa. The family moved to Marshalltown; Marshall County, Iowa in 1959. He was a member of Saint Henry's Parish and served on the Parish Council, a member of the Knights of Columbus, Catholic Order of Forrester's, the American Legion Frank Lewis Glick Post #46 and a former member of the Des Moines Engineers Club. He did not retire until his mid 70's and enjoyed his engineering profession until his death. Everett J. Ormsby, age 87, passed away on Friday, December 19, 2008 at the Grandview Heights in Marshalltown, Iowa from complications of congestive heart failure. Those left to mourn his passing are: His his wife of 58 years: Mary. His two daughters: Anne Canavespe of Houston; Harris County, Texas. Rita Ormsby of Brooklyn; Kings County, New York. His four sons: Joe (Sue) Ormsby of Saint Cloud; Stearns County, Minnesota. Thomas Ormsby of Houston, Texas. John Ormsby of Marshalltown, Iowa. Mark (Wendy) Ormsby of Silver Spring; Montgomery County, Maryland. His six grandsons: Michael Canavespe of Owasso; Tulsa County, Oklahoma. Matthew (fiancée Lisa) Canavespe. Timothy Canavespe, both of Houston, Texas. Brenden, Dominick and Neil Ormsby of Saint Cloud, Minnesota. His two granddaughters: Evalyn Ormsby and Erin Ormsby of Silver Spring, Maryland and his great-granddaughter: Kylie Canavespe of Owasso, Oklahoma. Everett was preceded in death by his son: David. His parents: Thomas and Olive and his two brothers: Virgil and Cletus, both killed in action in World War II. May they rest in peace. Visitation will be from: 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday; December 26, 2008 at the funeral home with a 6:30 p.m. Knights of Columbus Rosary and a 7:00 p.m. vigil service. Funeral services will begin at: 10:30 a.m. on Saturday; December 27, 2008 at the Saint Henry's Catholic Church with Friar Don Czapla officiating. Interment will be at the Riverside Cemetery in Marshalltown, Iowa. Memorials in Everett's honor may be directed to the Saint Henry's Catholic Church, Iowa River Hospice or a charity of one's choice in lieu of flowers.
