Clinton D. "Grandpa" Harden Sr., 90, of Clovis, NM, died Saturday, December 20, 2008, at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis. He was born July 11, 1918, in Grady, NM to Thomas Allen and Mary Louisa Sparks Harden.
He attended school in Grady, Clovis and Forrest, NM and college in Las Cruces, NM. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific on the USS Deliver. He married Doretha Ellen Miller January 22, 1944, in Chicago, IL. He was active in sports and coached little league baseball and was a past school board member in Clovis. He worked at the Santa Fe Railroad as Chief Clerk retiring after 34 1/2 years in 1975. He was known to everyone as just Grandpa. After his retirement he helped in the family business doing whatever he could. He was a member of First Church of God and served as Youth Director, was a Sunday School Director and Board Member.
He is survived by his son, New Mexico State Senator Clinton D. Harden Jr. and his wife Kathy of Clovis, NM; 1 sister, Yvonne Wilson of Clovis; 1 sister-in-law, S. Lorene Harden of Clovis; 3 grandchildren, Dustin Harden and his wife Michelle, Danielle Harden and Dionne Fish and her husband Michael and 5 great grandchildren, Lisa Marie Harden, Madison Hope Harden, Matthew Oliveira, Brody Fish and Jaden Harden; companion, Orvada Cosand and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his brothers, Lank, T. A. and Robert and sisters, Viola Hatfield, Jewell Gunnels, Lois Johnson and Bertha Cogdill.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 22, 2008, at Steed-Todd Chapel in Clovis with Dr. Herbert Bergstrom and Walter Bradley officiating. Burial will follow at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis.
Honorary casket bearers will be Jessie Crisp, Josh Crisp, Charlie Crisp, Adam Warren, Donald Musick, Bill Adams, Tom Harden and all members of the Men's Bible Study.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Autism Program at the Center for Development and Disability, 2300 Menaul NE, Albuquerque, NM 87107.
