Mary Jane Walden was born in Vinton County, Ohio, to William and Amelia(also known as Emily)Wilson Walden. The Walden Family moved to Decatur County, Iowa, in the mid 1850s. In 1867 Mary Jane married the young widower, Josephus Rush, whose first wife had died shortly after they arrived in Decatur County. In addition to the 18 month old son Josephus had from his first marriage the Rushes had five sons and six daughters. They lived in Missouri in the 1870s and in Kansas in the 1880s. They returned to Iowa in 1891. Mary Jane died in Whiting, Iowa at the home of her eldest daughter.
