(Thank you to contributor Lois Tucker for providing the birthdate and parentage of John Henry Salah BRANCH.)
He was married to Charlotte S. SAWYER of Savannah on the 15th of March, 1837, by Rev. Willard PRESTON, pastor of the Independent Presbyterian Church in Savannah (in 1812, his widowed mother-in-law had been married to his wife's father by an earlier pastor of the same congregation).
In 1845, John, his wife and their three sons were living in Savannah, in the Second District of Chatham County, next to his mother-in-law's household.
After a marriage of just 12 years, he died on the 1st of October 1848, and was buried the following day in the Old City Burying Ground (today called Colonial Park Cemetery), having resided on Broughton Street in Franklin Ward at the time of his death.
On the 28th of February, 1853, his remains were removed to lot 298 of Laurel Grove Cemetery (his mother-in-law's lot). Today, his memorial stone is found in double lot 1181-1182, where his widow (1814-1894) and the elder two of their three Confederate Soldier sons are buried:
• Lt. John Lufburrow BRANCH (1838-1861),
• Sanford Walker BRANCH (1840-1891), and
• Hamilton McDevit BRANCH (1843-1899, buried at Bonaventure Cemetery).
