"Rip" grew up in the Bates County area and was a farmer all of his life. He loved to hunt, fish and play pool. Coon hunting was a favorite pastime of his. He enjoyed listening to his hounds run and waiting for them to "tree." He also enjoyed raising watermelons and sold them for a number of years. He enjoyed meeting people as he sold watermelons.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Edgar Thomas and Susanna Catherine, four sisters, and three brothers.
