North Manchester – An unidentified elderly man died here this morning after an automobile accident at Manchester Plaza Shopping Center, and a female passenger, identified as Mary Enyeart, Liberty Mills, was in fair condition at Wabash County Hospital.

The accident occurred about 10:45 a.m. today when the driver of an automobile going west in the shopping center lost control and crashed over a sidewalk and through five wooden storefront braces.

Speculation at the scene was that the man was driving the car, and that the accident occurred when he had a heart attack and lost control.

Continuing down the sidewalk in front of Thomas Family Center, the car struck a brick wall near P. N. Hirsch and Company. Neither North Manchester police nor County Coroner Darwin DeLaughter would release the dead man's name pending a coroner's investigation and notification of next of kin.

The woman was treated at Manchester Clinic for leg and head injuries before being taken to the Wabash Hospital.
