Basil was a Graduate of Newton High School, Newton, Massachusetts and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston, MA. Attended summer school at Heidelberg University in Germany 1939. As a child he traveled all over the world with his parents. As a Chemical Engineering consultant he traveled all over the United States working in and starting up research labs. He married Mary Hunter McAuley in Concord, MA. in 1943 and they had two children. He retired from the chemical industry in 1955 when he became disabled after a lab accident, but he went on to spend several decades teaching, writing and traveling.
