William B. Hoover, 72, 1600 Eighth Ave., died Thursday morning Feb. 18, 1999, at the Altoona Hospital emergency room.

He was born April 6, 1926, in Duncansville, the son of the late Brice D. and Minnie V. (Helsel) Hoover. He married Shirley M. Mower July 1, 1975, in Winchester, VA.

Mr. Hoover was a member of Carson Valley Church of the Brethren.

He retired as a custodian from the Hollidaysburg Area School District in 1984, after five years service. He previously was employed as a cook at Altoona Hospital.

Mr. Hoover was a 1944 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Mr. Hoover was an avid fisherman and a member of Geeseytown Volunteer Fire Company.

Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Tina M. Bender of Duncansville; two sons: Ron R. of State College and Von E. of Hollidaysburg; a stepdaughter, Becky D. Bosserman of Tyrone; a stepson, Gregory D. Detterbeck of Altoona; three brothers: Edwin R. of Hollidaysburg, Wayne E. of Altoona and Elvin L. of Carson Valley; three grandchildren: Brant, Eric and Kelli Hoover; and seven stepgrandchildren: Tim, David, Danielle, Amanda, Alycia Detterbeck, and Matthew and Marshall Foust.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Heart Association. Interment in Carson Valley Cemetery.
