Jerome A. Karcher, 82, of Dahlgren, passed away at 9:55 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008, at Countryside Manor in Mt. Vernon.He was born in Hamilton County on March 4, 1926, a son of Antone and Bertha (Frey) Karcher. He was a retired farmer.Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Piopolis. Msg. Joseph Lawler will conduct the funeral mass. Interment will follow at St. John's Cemetery in Piopolis.Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. Wednesday until service time at the church with Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro in charge of arrangements.Jerome is survived by sisters, Mildred Rapp of St. Genevieve, Mo., Evelyn Aydt and husband Paul of Louisville, Ky., and Roseann Frey of Decatur; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Karcher and Mary Karcher; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Ernest, Alonzo and Franklin Karcher; two brothers-in-law, Clarence Rapp and Leo Frey; and one niece, Carol Price.
