Gideon W. Shrum fought in the Civil War. He enlisted at Clinton County, Illinois on 21 Aug 1862. He mustered in as a Private on 18 Sep 1862, mustered out as a Sargent on 6 Jun1865.

Gideon W. Shrum died at his home in Franklin County, Illinois. He had a buggy wreck that was brought on by a heart attack.

He was married only four times that can be proven.

__1st - Married Elizabeth Garrett, c1844 possibly in Tennessee. She died 15 Aug 1855 in Illinois.
(Elizabeth did not marry Elisha Hall as has been stated. That was another Elizabeth Shrum. The FAG Memorial for her is incorrect. No proof of place of burial.) Elizabeth Garrett Shrum is my 2nd GrGrandmother. Gideon and Elizabeth had 5 known children.

__2nd - Marriage to Sophia Garrett (sister of Elizabeth Garrett) 14 July 1856.

__3rd - Marriage to Nancy G. DeWhitle (DeWhit) Perry County, Illinois, on 09 June 1859. Gideon and Nancy had 6 known children.

__4th - Marriage to Marriage to Barbara Catherine Braden Jefferson Co., Illinois, on 03 June 1875. She was his wife when he died. Gideon and Barbara had 5 known children.
