Johann Carl Freiderich BRUGGMANN
21JAN1827GE-

He married 29JUL1858IA Minnie HELM

Johann Carl Frederich BRÜGGMANN was born at Môllenhagen in Ankershagen Parish of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, married in Clayton Co., IA, probably died in Honey Creek Twp., Delaware Co., IA, & is buried in Strawberry Point IA's True Cemetery(Probably the four plots without markers in Noble Cemetery in Lodomillo Twp. near Strawberry Point in Clayton County IA).

Sponsors at his baptism 25JAN1827 at Môllenhagen included: Hanna HAGEN, Carl Bollinann(mann), & Freiderich Stein(Mullengall?) of Môllenhagen.

Johann Carl BRUGGMAN was released from the Army in Mecklenburg in 1855 -copy of release on file- where he had served 5 years, 11 months, and 15 days.

His Mecklenburg Army Release, at Wismar, described him as 27 ¼ years old, 5'3" with blue eyes and blond hair.

He was not married to Wilhemine HELM(d/o Joachim) at the 1852 birth of son, Frederick, because the Stavenhagen Lutheran pastor marked the birth as illegitimate & gave Frederick the surname of 'Helm' for his mother which was the custom until legitimized by marriage which was done in Clayton County IA by James S. Gilbert, J.P. in 1858.

At Elkader, Iowa on 19JAN1863, he renounced allegiance to the Duke of Mecklenburg & swore allegiance to the United States & was granted citizenship.

In a deed dated 13MAR1865 he purchased from Micheal & Mary KENNEDY for $1,375 land in Volga Twp. of Clayton County, IA described as E 1/2 SW 1/4 Sec.19 & E 1/2 W 1/2 SW bounded by the Elkader/Littleport road to form 40 acres more or less & SW 1/4 SE 1/4 E 1/4(excepting 10 acres in SE corner owned by Michael MACNEMARE) of Sec. 30 supposed to be 150 acres located outside & to the North of present day Littleport. On 2JAN1871 John & Wilhelmiene 'BRUGEMANN'(spelling on deed) sold this land for $1,300 to Frederic PEICK.

Since Wm. & Trace BRUGGMANN signed for brother Frederich's marriage application in 1904, it can be assumed Johann Carl died sometime between his 1900 appearance in the census & 1904 & is probably buried in the True/Noble Cemetery near Strawberry Point, Iowa in a grave containing at least nine bodies with a marker reading 'BRUGGEMANN'.

Other Children:
- Frederick H. BRIGGMAN
