Celebration of life: 10 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church of Joshua, Hwy. 174 and Linda Drive, Joshua. Private burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation with family will be held at the church following the memorial service.
Memorials: Family requests no flowers. Donations may be made in Frankie's name to First United Methodist Church, Joshua, or charity of choice.
Mrs. Edwards was born July 28, 1917, at Shooks Chapel near Sulphur Springs, to Alice Emily Hancock Coppedge Robins and Jack Robins. After her mother died, Frankie was reared by her older half-sister, Ruby Robins, and her husband, W.H. Robins, with help from her half-sister, Ethyl Coppedge. The family lived in Dallas, where Frankie graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1934. She attended North Texas Agricultural College for two years.
After moving to Fort Worth, Frankie met W.B. Edwards Jr. in the Young Adult Class at Central Methodist Church in Fort Worth. Their first date was planned for New Year's Eve of 1937, but W.B. had to cancel as he had to "pick" turkeys at the family grocery store. The couple married Sunday, May 22, 1938, at the gazebo in Fort Worth Botanical Garden at 8 a.m., surrounded by beautiful roses. They celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary in May with a family party at Mirabella Assisted Living where they moved in January 2007.
They lived in South Fort Worth until 1954, when they moved to a farm in Joshua with their four children. Frankie was a homemaker. Tender pie crusts were her speciality with many requests for cherry, chocolate and pecan pies. She and Daddy enjoyed working in their garden and canning their homegrown vegetables.
Frankie was a loving wife and mother. The "big" room in our home made a wonderful dance floor, with teenagers filling the house on many occasions. Mother was Sunday school teacher at First United Methodist Church of Joshua and a Cub Scout den mother. She and Daddy attended numerous junior high and high school sporting events while their four children were participating. In later years they attended more sporting events to watch their grandchildren play.
The family would like to thank her loving caregivers: Nina, Brigette, Doris, Shuntel and Shina. Special thanks to the nurses and staff of Harris Southwest, Broadway Plaza at Cityview and Mirabella Assisted Living.
Survivors: Husband, W.B. Edwards Jr. of Fort Worth; children, Alice Ollar, W.B. "Bill" Edwards and his wife, Judy, Ellen Miller and her husband, Bob, and John Edwards; brother, Paul Robins; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; a number of nieces and nephews; and many friends.
