History of Floyd County 1917

Barney B. Blunt, a prosperous and well know farmer & cattle dealer, grandson of a pioneer in this county, who came in 1852 and whose descendants are still residing on the land then taken while yet in a raw state, was born on the old Blunt homestead, Charles City, on August 27, 1881.

Barney B. Blunt is a son of Hezekiah & Elizabeth (McCauley) Blunt, the former of who was born in Green County, Wisconsin, October 14, 1843 and the latter in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on November 19, 1841. They were married on December 31, 1862 and became the parents of eleven children, of whom Barney B. is the eighth in order of birth. Hezekiah Blunt died in Charles City in 1901 and his widow is still living on the place with her son E.E.

Barney B. Blunt, grandson of John C. Blunt, was educated in the public schools of Charles City and graduated from the high school in 1898. On the completion of his school course he worked on the farm for some years. After the death of his father he formed a partnership with his brothers, E. E. & W. C. Blunt to operate in general farming and cattle buying, which continued for a few years. In 1905 the partnership was dissolved and he commenced on his own account in farming and cattle buying. Mr. Blunt now is the owner of one hundred and twenty eight acres of excellent land, part of it being in St. Charles township and part in Niles township, the residence being in section 31, St. Charles township. On the farm, which is well improved, there are several substantial buildings, all of which has been generally successful in his agricultural operations, being accounted one of the progressive farmers in Charles City.

On October 11, 19050, Barney B. Blunt was united in marriage to Maude Ruth Wilson, born on September 30, 1880, a daughter of Marvin T. & Dora (Brown) Wilson. Mr. & Mrs. Blunt are the parents of one child, a girl, Eleanor Maud, born on September 15, 1907. Mr. Blunt, coming as he does of pioneer stock, inherits a progressive spirit for the development of the city and county in which he resides. He is generally regarded as a public spirited citizen, whose efforts are ever directed to the common good.
