Old Citizen and Veteran Dead
Died---at his home near Duroc, on May 17, George W. Foster, aged 78 years, 4 months, and 11 days. Born January 7, 1827, in Anderson County, TN. He came to Benton County about 15 years ago.
He was married twice: first married to Miss Margaret Ann Lindsey. To this union were born eleven children, seven of whom had crossed over on the other shore before him. The second marriage was to Miss Sara E. Davison (s/b Davis), on March 11, 1873. To this union was born seven children, six of whom are still living but there wre only two of his children present to take a look at his kind face.
He had been a Christian for many years and was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church. Mr. Foster enrolled March 15, 1862, in Company K, 7th M.S.M., and was discharged April 3, 1875 (s/b 1865). He was a member of the G.A.R. Camp at Climax. "Uncle George", as he was commonly called, had been a sufferer for twelve years from paralysis and for sometime had been nearly helpless. His toll is over, his work is done. He had fought the fight, the victory won and now his spirit is gone to heaven.
***George W. and his second wife, Sara Eliza (Davis) Foster, are both buried in Mossy Creek Cemetery in Benton County, MO.
****George Was born to Isaac "Ike" Foster & Mary Gibbs. Mary died in 1843 & Ike married Keziah Ann Overton on Sept 22 1943. She became George's step mother.
