From the Frankston Citizen dated January 1, 1976 --- MRS. HERRINGTON --- Funeral services for Mrs. Callie Herrington, 89, of Palestine were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 28, in the Hassell & Foster Chapel in Palestine with the Rev. Herman Millikan officiating. Mrs. Herrington died in a Palestine hospital at 10 p.m. Friday, Dec 26, after a brief illness. Burial wa in the Olive Branch Cemetery in the Brushy Creek community. Grandsons served as pallbearers. Mrs. Herrington was born Jan. 29, 1886 in Brushy Creek, a daughter of Joe Evans and Mrs. Charity Elrod Evans. She was an early pioneer and civic leader, and served on the Board of Stewards at the Methodist Church at Brushy Creek until moving to Palestine in 1941. Mrs. Herrington also worked to establish the annual Brushy Creek homecoming and was a member of that committee for many years. She taught Sunday School and was active in the Women's Service Organization of the Grace United Methodist Church in Palestine. Her husband, Virgil Herrington preceded her in death in June 1927. Survivors include six sons, Joe Herrington of Texarkana, Gilbert Herrington of Austin, Raymond Herrington and Johnnie Herrington, both of Palestine, Vergil Herrington of Monahans and Gene Herrington of Mesquite; one daughter, Mrs. Travis (Mattie Lee) Porter of Palestine; 19 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
