Asmon had several brothers in Atlanta, one of whom became Mayor of Atlanta and was quite prominent politically. Asmon moved with his family, from Jonesboro, Georgia to Leroy, Florida in the fall of 1890. At that time, Leroy was a boom town which was subsequently completely abandoned. Asmon operated the Leroy Hotel for several years, until failing health made it necessary to discontinue operation. Prior to moving to Florida, he was employed as a Untied States Railway Postal Clerk, operating on the Central of Georgia Railway, between Atlanta and Savannah. He also engaged in general farming at Jonesboro, Georgia - cotton being the principle crop. * source: Asmon's son-in-law, Fred Veal, Sept, 1949.
