Doris Christine Bruce was born on February 22, 1907 the fourth daughter of John M. and Marie (Lewis) Anderson. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph Lutheran Church, rural Rosholt, South Dakota and was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church, White Rock, South Dakota until her death. After attending a rural school near her home she attended the first two years of high school in Wheaton, Minnesota and completed her high school education at Northwestern Lutheran College, Fergus Falls, Minnesota. Following high school she attended Moorhead State Teachers college and after attaining her two year teaching degree taught rural schools in the Glyndon, Minnesota area and District 29, Taylor Township, Traverse County, Minnesota. On October 18, 1932 she was married to Robert Bruce. To this union three children were born, Edelle, Alan and Roberta. Doris and Robert farmed and lived on the family farm until Robert's death in September of 1981. In the late 1970's they purchased a home in Winterhaven, Florida and enjoyed the winters there. Doris continued to winter in Florida and spent her summers on the farm until 1992 when she purchased a home in Wheaton, Minnesota. In January 2003 she entered the Rosholt Care Center where she resided until her death. Doris was active in her community and church. She was one of the organizers of the Traverse County Home Extension program, helped organize and served as an Adult Leader in the early years of the Bois de Sioux 4-H Club in Taylor Township and served as an officer of Augustana Lutheran Church women's organizations. She enjoyed gardening, particularly raising roses, hunting and fishing.

Doris is survived by her three children, Edelle Magnuson of Wheaton, Alan (Lois Ann) Bruce of Wheaton, and Roberta (Bill) Meyer of Gulfport, Mississippi, grandchildren: Ardy Magnuson of Plymouth, Minnesota, Gary Magnuson of Gypsum, Colorado, Jana (Kevin) McCoonse of Shalimar, Florida, Will Meyer of Gulfport, Mississippi, Anna (Chris) Stangeland of Fargo, North Dakota, four great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law: Violet Anderson and Doris Anderson both of Rosholt, South Dakota, nieces and nephews. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Robert, sisters: Myrtle Taylor, Edna Auby, Ethel Hedbloom, Margie Nelson, Harriet Anderson, brothers: Lester Anderson (infant), John L. Anderson, Harold Anderson, son-in-law: Norman Magnuson, granddaughter: Nicki Magnuson and great-grandson: Brandon Magnuson.
