Ronald wood Hillyard, 81, of Afton passed away Sept 25, 2003 following a courageous battle with cancer.
Ronald was born Feb 5, 1922 to Leslie and Ada Elizabeth Wood Hillyard in Auburn. He was the second of six children.
Ronald was very interested in sports and was a successful athlete. After graduating from Star Valley High School in 1940, he received a football scholarship to the University of Wyoming. WWII interrupted his education and Ron joined the Army Air corp in October 1942.
Ron served as an airplane machanic until being discharged in 1946. He returned to Star Valley where he continued working as a mechanic, working for Don Wood and Bill Neuenschwander.
Ronald married Edna Mae Bjorkman on Sept 21, 1947. He joined his father-in-law, Victor Bjorkman in operating star Valley Motors. In 1960 they formed a partnership and changed the name to of the business to B & G Chervolet0Buck.
In 1964 Ron purchased the business. He was an expert mechanic and salesman. He received many awards and honors from General Motors, including trips to Hawaii and Africa.
Ronald was a member of the Afton Volunteer Fire Department since 1951. He served as the assistant to the fire chief and fire chief form 1958 to 1963.
Ron enjoyed the outdoors. He loved to hunt and fish and especially to ride horses
After retirement Ron and Edna Mae spent their winters in the warmer area of Arizona and Southern Utah. But their favorite winter home was san Carlos, Mexico where they spent their time deep sea fishing.
Ronald and Edna were sealed in the Logan Temple July 10, 2001.
He is survived by his wife; son's Douglas and Fred of Afton; daughter Patricia Booth of Fairview and Deanne Jackson of Freedom; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brother James of Salt Lake City and sister Larue Leavitt of California.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Demmar and Vern and sister Gayle Thurman.
