Lester E. "Pops" Bruens, 78, of Watseka, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, at Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka.

He was born Jan. 25, 1930, in Crescent Township, the son of Henry and Johanna Luecht Bruens.

He was a member of the United States Marine Corp.
He worked as a maintenance man and pressman at Uarco for many years. He was a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church in Watseka and a member of the Watseka American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, softball, bowling and coaching for the Babe Ruth Baseball league.

He married Lois Watts Oct. 23, 1955, at Woodworth Lutheran Church in Woodworth. She survives in Watseka.

Also surviving are four sons: Robert Bruens and his friend Connie of Hoopeston, Kevin Bruens of Watseka, Paul Bruens and his friend Kim of Watseka, Todd and Sonja Bruens of Fairfield; a sister, Henrietta Lynch of Colo.; two brothers, Don (Catherine) Bruens of Milford, and Willard Bruens of Hoopeston; 11 grandchild; four step grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Baier Funeral Home in Watseka, and one hour prior to the services.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, Watseka.

Memorials may be made to St. Judes Pulmonary Research or to the donor's choice.
