He was a retired employee of General Electric Co. in Louisville and a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Jess and Mary Elizabeth Downs Mattingly.

Survivors include: his wife, Lucille Taylor Mattingly of Loretto; three sons, Juddie Mattingly of Harrodsburg, Wayne Taylor Mattingly of Bardstown and Donald Lee Mattingly of Cox's Creek; one daughter, Mrs. Joe "Anna Margaret" Brady of Loretto; one sister, Mrs. Leo "Mayola" Cecil of St. Mary; five grandchildren; one half-sister, Mrs. Annie Stumph of Lebanon; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 A.M. July 25, 1991, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Kevin J. Bryan, pastor, officiated. Active pallbearers were Leslie Mattingly, Gerald Mattingly, Carmen Corbett, Joe Derringer, Larry Cecil and Jerry Stumph. Honorary pallbearers were Jimmy Brady, Kimmie Mattingly, Crystal Mattingly, and Melisa Mattingly, all grandchildren. Prayer services were held at 5:15 P.M., July 24, 1991, at Mattingly Funeral Home, Loretto. They were in charge of the arrangements. Buried, 7-25-1991, in St Francis of Assisi Cemetery, St Francis, KY.
