Born February 20, 1918 in Richmond, MI, the 6th daughter of Herbert and Mayme Taylor Beatty, she was named Mayme Norene. She was known as Renee, which was the name she preferred.
Her father, who was a Spanish American War veteran, died in 1922 when she was age 4. On September 20, 1943, she married Army Air Corps Major Francis Robert (Frank) Royal after he returned from a combat tour in the Southwest Pacific.
Renee served with him in a 30 year military career, during which they added 5 children to their family.
Renee is survived by her loving husband Frank, a daughter, 4 sons, 14 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
After their military service Frank and Renee moved to Monument in 1969 and became active in the community, schools and Christian activities during which Renee was noted for her loving ways with young and old.
They both helped in the establishing of a Young Life club at Lewis-Palmer H.S. and impacted the lives of many high schoolers. Anyone who met Renee was given a great hug and she became known as the "hugger of Monument Hill".
Renee was also very active with church at First Presbyterian, especially with the Pathfinders group. She is loved and cherished by her extended family and many friends who were blessed by having her in their lives.
Renee was looking forward to being in Heaven and one of her last wishes was that her life be celebrated, not mourned. The family suggests gifts to Pikes Peak Hospice, First Presbyterian Church or to a church or charity of the givers' choice rather than flowers or other means to honor her memory.
