My great grandfather Peterson Kimbrell Parr, was born 14 April 1825 near Kingston in Roane County, Tennessee. He moved to Johnson County, Indiana as a boy and lived and worked in the County the rest of his life, about 70 years. In 1850 he was a school teacher in Clark Township. In 1854 he was in one of the earliest graduation classes at Franklin College, an institution he helped to found. From 1856-1858 he was the Johnson County Surveyor. Again from 1867-1870 he was the Johnson County Surveyor. Then again from 1874-1878 he was the Johnson County Surveyor. He served as Deputy Mayor of Franklin for four years. And finally before his death in 1899 he was the Johnson County Assessor from 1891-1896. During his lifetime, he owned farms in Clark and Nineveh and later a home in Franklin. He also served as Minister and Elder for the Baptist Church and performed many marriages in Johnson County. According to the 1874 Directory of Johnson County he was a farmer, surveyor and civil engineer, Democrat and Predestinarian Baptist. People in Franklin referred to Peterson as "PK".

Our Parr family is related to Alexander, Jones, Byers, Dollins, Drybread, Stretcher, Justus, Parkhurst, Kimbrell, Israel and others of Johnson County.
Reverend "PK" Parr first married Rebecca Rachel Kemper, 14 November 1843. They were the parents of two children. Asa Nimrod Parr who became Deputy Sheriff in Indianapolis, and Tilman W Parr who died as a small child and is buried in Nolin Cemetery near his great grandfather, John Parr. Rebecca died shortly after Tilman was born.

Several years later, Peterson married Lucy McQueary of Shelby County. They were the parents of six children, one dying in infancy and five attended Franklin College. Mary born in 1854 and John born in 1859 died in the fall of 1879 while students at Franklin College, perhaps from a yellow fever outbreak. Wilson M Parr was their fourth child who became a teaching professor and then an attorney, later moving to Houston, Texas. Their fifth child Emma was a well know local singer, performing at the Indiana Governor's Mansion over the years. She married William Campbell Van Arsdel an attorney, prominent businessman and elected official in Indianapolis. Sixth child Lella Parr became Professor of Music at the Indiana State Normal School (Indiana State University at Terre Haute) before marrying artist Rolland H Livingstone and moving to New York City.
