Jacob was a son of Humberson Lyon (1740-1784) and Nancy Pemberton.
He married Mary Ann Snodgrass 10 December 1818 in Sullivan County, Tennessee. (Virginia, Marriages, 1740-1850 - without citation - says the marriage took place in Washington county, Virginia. It should be noted that at the time a goodly portion of these two counties were opposite each other on respective sides of the Tennessee-Virginia state line.)
