Mary C. Cothran, homaker; Morgan City, Ms.--Mary Clare Cothran, 79, a homemaker, died Monday of heart failure at Greenwood Leflore Hospital in Greenwood. Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home with burial in Bear Creek Cemetery. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mrs. Cothran was born May 31, 1918 and died July 7, 1997. Mrs. Cothran was a Drew native. She was a member of Morgan City Baptist Church, where she served as President of the Women's Missionary Union and a Sunday School teacher and was church clerk for 12 years. She also chaired a number of church committees."She loved her grandchildren," said her daughter, Mary Joyce Lindsey of Sidon. "She was always teaching them, from day one, with scripture and love. Mama preached love and was so gentle." Study of the Bible was central to her mother's life. Lindsey said "When she was a young married woman, Mama made as her goal, Proverbs 31. She knew what her focus was." Other survivors include; husband, Joseph Cothran; son, Joseph Ray Cothran of Cleveland; daughter, Sandra Lynn Peeples of Vicksburg; sisters, Alma Young and Nell Minert, both of Cleveland, Ms. and Opal Collins of Orlando, Fla.; brothers, Floyd McClellan of Rolling Fork Ms., Berlin McClellan, of Orlando, Fla., Louis McClellan of Memphis, Tenn., and Albert McClellan of Cleveland Ms.; and six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Morgan City Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
