Obituary

Ben C. Beach, aged 19 years, 10 months and 17 days, son of Simeon and Sarah Beach, died of Typhoid fever, at his home, November 12th, 1898 after an illness of about five weeks.
At the beginning of his sickness he was a student in Baker University, but came home when he was barely able to be out of his bed. He received the very best of attention from the hands of loving parents and others, but gradually grew worse, until his case seemed to baffle all medical skill. His suffering was great but he bore it with great patience and without a murmur throughout his entire sickness. He gave assurance through it all that Jesus, the Great Comforter, was with him. A few hours before he died, he seemed to be rational, and sang several of his farewell songs and two blessed church hymns and while he sang his face seemed to be lighted up with heavenly joy.
For more than seven years he had been a faithful member of the Bucks Grove M.E. church. It seemed to be a source of delight to him to attend Sunday School, Epworth League and church services. If he was at home he was at his post of duty in the church every Sabbath.
He was also a good student while in school. He was bright, quiet, thoughtful and earnest and had many friends. It seemed that none knew him but to love him, none named him but to praise.
His life was an encouragement and incentiive to fidelity in the lives of those with whom he associated. Although his life was short he did not live in vain. His life will reproduce itself in the lives and hearts of others who live afer him.
The funeral services were held in the Bucks Grove M.E. church on Monday November 11th conducted by the pastor. He was laid to rest in the Bucks Grove cemetery near the church. It was a sad funeral and a large congregation was present to mourn and sympathize with the bereaved friends.
