Funeral services for Leroy "Jake" Allen, Sr. were held July 21, 2007 at Winona Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Williamson officiating. Burial was held at Forrest Hill Cemetery in Winona with Sanders & Sanders Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Allen, 83, of Winona, died of heart failure, July 17, 2007 at Greenwood Leflore Hospital. He was a self-employed concrete finisher and a member of Winona Baptist Church. He was also a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Allen.
Survivors include his daughters, Sarah Minnieweather of Winona, Brenda Allen of Elk Grove, Calif., Iva Allen of Southaven, Vickie Allen of Arlington, Tenn., and Veronica Allen of Houston, TX; sons, Leroy Allen, Jr. of Winona, Melvin Allen of Warner Robins, Ga., John W. Allen of Sacramento, Calif., William Allen of Adams, Tenn.,and Rodney Allen of Yokosuka, Japan; 18 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
