Mr. Kelly, a resident of Mandeville, LA, was past President and CEO of ODECO (Ocean Drilling and Exploration Company), and former Director of Hibernia, Tidewater, Inc., CLECO, and Gulf Island Fabrication, Inc. and past President of Mid-Continent Oil Association and a past chairman of the United Way Campaign in New Orleans, passed away at the age of 83 at Lakeview Regional Medical Center near Mandeville following a brief illness.

From 1943-45, Mr. Kelly served in the Army Air Corps as a B-17 nose gunner on 16 combat missions over Germany, said his son Michael Kelly of Marksville.

Mr. Kelly's next stop was Louisiana State University. He had told military authorities who mustered him out of the service that he planned to study journalism.

Mr. Kelly, whose postwar studies were financed by the GI Bill, ended up getting a law degree and working for a time at the Deutsch, Kerrigan and Stiles law firm before leaving for employment as a landman with the California Co., now Chevron.

Among his colleagues at the Deutsch firm were two young men who later became quite well known -- Dave Treen as governor of Louisiana and Jim Garrison as Orleans Parish district attorney and a figure in the history of the asassination of President John F. Kennedy.

Mr. Kelly's survivors include his wife of 47 years, Jean Kelly of Mandeville; sons Michael Kelly of Marksville, LA, Kevin Kelly of Slidell, LA, and Shawn Kelly of Lake Charles, LA; daughters Patti Beyer of Chicago, Illinois and Pamela Van Hoven of Mandeville, LA; Grandchildren Colin, Amy, Joshua, Jessica, Hannah, Rose, Sophia, and Chloe; and great-grandchild Faith; and one brother, Charles Kelly of Lake Charles, LA.

Relatives and friends of the family attended the funeral services at Christian Life Center located in St. Benedict, LA, situated on the grounds of St. Joseph Abbey. Interment was at the St. Joseph Abbey Cemetery with a reception after interment.

The family requested that, in lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Kelly be made to the Alzheimer's Association. E.J. Fielding Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
