OBITUARY:
Midnight Crash Of Truck Fatal To C. R. Dickey
Charles Ray Dickey of rural route 8 died early this morning as a result of a truck accident shortly after midnight on the newly paved East Prairie avenue.
There were no witnesses to the accident, but police said the car tracks indicated Mr. Dickey was driving east at a high rate of speed in a truck belonging to Swain & Meyers, Inc.
The truck hit the curb on the north side of the street and jumped onto the center boulevard, then returned to the street and skidded about 150 feet into the 1600 block, finally crashing broadside into a tree on the south side of the street.
Mr. Dickey died shortly after being taken to St. Mary's hospital, Coroner Harold Brintlinger said today. The accident was reported to police at 12:23 a. m. An inquest will be held next week.
A son of Mr. and Mrs. William K. Dickey, he was born July 24, 1923 in Macon county. He attended Sharon Methodist church and was employed as a truck driver by Swain & Myers.
He enlisted in the army Feb. 12, 1942, serving in the battles in Europe. He held four bronze battle stars and the Purple Heart. He received his discharge Oct. 23, 1945.
Besides his parents, Mr. Dickey leaves one brother, Dale, who is serving with the army air forces in Manila, and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Dickey of rural route 8.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p. m. Monday in the Brintlinger funeral home, with burial in the Macon County Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Sunday.
