Rosa M. Bernheisel, 101, formerly of Bunker Hill, died Saturday, December 6, 2008 in the E.C.C. Retirement Village, Albright Campus, Myerstown.
She was the wife of the late Walter J. Bernheisel. She was born in Bunker Hill on October 20, 1907, daughter of the late William J. and Ellen S. Martin Bean. Rosa was a former board member and lay delegate for 30 years of the Bunker Hill E.C. Church. She was very active for over 65 years in the Woman's Christian Temperance Union where she served as State Director for 22 years and Delegate for 6 years. She also was a former member of the Jonestown Area Senior Center and the Republican Club of Lebanon.
Rosa is survived by a daughter, Rachel, wife of Henry Kern of Lebanon; sons, Walter Bernheisel, Jr. of Jonestown; James Bernheisel and wife Linda of Carlisle; 12 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; sisters, Violet Peirce, Mt. Gretna and Esther Lange, Chambersburg. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Shawn Eric Bernheisel; daughter-in-law, Jill Bernheisel; 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 16, 2009 at 11 AM in the Bunker Hill E.C. Church, 2030 Rt. 72 North, Lebanon, PA 17046. A viewing will be held Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church and Tuesday from 10 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be made in the adjoining church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the PA Concerned about Alcohol Problems, 900 S. Arlington Avenue, Suite 220, Harrisburg, PA 17109, or her church.
