Civil War: Company H, 89th Ohio Infantry

John Russell Kingery married Margaret Stewart Pricer in Ross County, Ohio, September 21, 1848. John was 40 years old when he enlisted as a private on August 11, 1862. He was mustered into Company H, 89th Ohio Infantry, August 26, 1862. Private Kingery was later promoted to corporal. Corporal Kingery died of disease on July 15, 1864, at a U.S. Field Hospital operated by the 3rd Division, XIV Army Corps, then located at Vinings Station, Georgia, and was buried in the hospital cemetery. After the war he was reinterred in the National Cemetery at Marietta, Georgia (U.S. Registers of Deaths of Volunteers, 1861-1865; VA Gravesite Locator). Margaret filed for a Civil War widow's pension in Buckskin Township, Ross County, Ohio, on August 31, 1864 and received application No. 63,259 and certificate No. 45,888.
