Born Oct. 21, 1914, in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Perry Lee Lafone and Hester Kaylor Lafone.
He was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church, a charter member of St. Timothy Fire Department and retired from Herman Sipe after 40 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, LouElla Baker Lafone; six sisters; and four brothers.
He is survived by his daughter, Linda Powell and her husband, Dickie, of Conover; sons, Donald Lafone and his wife, Frances, and Ira Lafone and his wife, Cathy, all of Conover, and Johnny Lafone of Taylorsville; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and his sister, Edith Eckerd of Conover.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008, at St. John's Lutheran Church, with the Revs. Scott Johnson and Anton Lagoutine officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m., at the church.
