William Jr. came with his parents to Utah when he was six years old with the Independent Company on to 25 Sep 1853. He helped his father in business from a young age as did most boys. He joined the Utah Militia and participated in the Black Hawk Indian War as a second lieutenant when he was only 16.
In the summer of 1878 an explosion at his sawmill caused a fire that burned William severely and killed his seven-year-old son and killed the engineer. They were living in Randolph at the time.
They moved to Huntington where he built a large house, part of which they rented out as a hotel for many years. He also built other buildings in the area. He was the first lawyer in Huntington and Emery County.
He was prominent in church and civic affairs. He was a politician and involved in everything. He remained in Huntington until his death.
