Eugene E. Keran Jr.51, Plantation, Fla. died Tues. Dec. 22, 1992. Eugene was born and raised in Ft. Madison Iowa. He attended St. Mary's grade school and graduated from Aquinas High School 1958. He was an extremely active young boy. He loved the outdoors going on camping and fishing trips with his Grandpa "Popoose" Kramer. In High School he played basketball, he seemed to strive more in his studies and was a top student in his class. Ambitious, he had partime jobs at the Fox and drive-in theater. In the summertime he loved to wonder in the woods, hunt arrowheads, and ride his horse Snowball, spent many days at the local swimming pool, played tennis with his friends,went speed boating with his sister, he Loved to water ski on the Mississippi River. After graduation from Aquinas he attended aronautical school in Kansas City, Mo. He went to work for Ozark Airlines in Ottumwa, Iowa. Striving for more, wishing to further his education he attended Parsons College in Fairfied Iowa, majoring in Math and Chemistry. While in Fairfield he met a farm girl from Chariton, Iowa, Connie Smith", after recieving their Bachelors degree's, he earned a fellowship in Bio-Chemistry to Syracuse Univ. N.Y., Connie became his bride. The were married in Ft. Madison at St. Mary's Catholic Church June 22, 1964. They resided in Cazanovia, N.Y. choosing a halfway point to reside for her to work for the state at a Home Economic divisions office. He attended the State University of New York Medical Center. They started their family having Machelle and Jennifer. They had a special love for a homeless young boy named "Joe" whom they were unable to adopt, but gave him a good home for many years. Eugene Graduated with his Masters degree. they moved on accepting different positions in Conneticut and Minn. Wanting more he applied and received a Grant from the University of Nebraska Medical Center Omaha, Neb. Lot's of hard work and completing his theses in 1975 he received a PhD. in Bio-Chemistry. Completing his goals in education he accepted a worthy position in the research dept. at the Marshfield Clinic, Marshfiled Wis. The family seemed to love the Northern State. He began working with stained glass making some beautiful and intricute pieces. He purchased property in Bayfield, Wisc. Found a new sport in sailing on the Lake. As a summer project commutting from Marshfield to Bayfield on weekends and summer vacations they purchased a restaurant named it: "The Hungury Mariner" where Connie could excile in her culinary skills. He continued on with talent in art and custom designed tee-shirts for his business and contracted for many other activites across the area. Overlooking Lake Superior and being frugal he built his dream home (cabin)by himself, skills he must of inherited from his Grandpa Kramer. After the home was completed, he set his sites on living in a warmer climate until their retirement, the family moved to Plantation Florida.Residing there for 8 years, Dr. Keran was an associate professor at Florida International Universities College of Health. He Loved teaching in his own way, and had special interests with his students. Sharing with them all of the interests he had in his life. Illness struck him in 1989 struggling on, wishing to teach and retire in Bayfield, the Lord wanted him and took him home on Dec. 22, 1992. He was survived by his wife Connie for 28 years. Two daughters Machelle Campbell & Jennifer Buttacovli, grandchildren Kaila, CJ & Isabella. One sister Marcia Keran.
