The 3rd Infantry Company H fought from May 17, 1863 to July 4, 1863. For more than 40 days they had no reinforcements, supplies nearly ran out, and the 3rd Infantry had sustained the most disastrous losses out of all the units fighting there. During this time is when Abraham T. Alloway was injured and sent home to Poweshiek, Iowa.
