A native of Afton he lived here many years before going to Logan.

A life sketch will be published next week.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, March 4, at 11 a.m. in the Logan, Utah, 9th LDS Ward Chapel by Bp. H. Dean Nelson for Dean Gardner, 65, former Star Valley resident, who died unexpectedly March 1, 1972 in Logan of a heart attack. Interment was in the Afton Cemetery.
Mr Gardner was born Jan 13, 1907, in Afton, the seventh child and sixth son in a family of 12, of Brigham O. and Emma Eunice Michaelson Gardner.
He was reared in a home where there was much love, where there were haystacks to play in, hay-racks to ski behind and plenty of opportunity for coasting, ice skating and other sports.
The Gardner's were a musical family and the children had a natural talent for singing and playing instruments without the aid of lessons. Dean learned how to read music, and played the piano, violin and saxophone. Evenings in the home were spent around the piano singing and playing together, and Dean played in a dance orchestra for 17 years. The seven boys in the family earned quite a reputation singing together at various church and civic functions. They were acc9ompanied on the piano by their sisters.
Upon graduation from the Star Valley High School (in three years) Dean was awarded a University of Wyoming scholarship.
He married Verenda Roberts June 16, 1926 in the Logan Temple. Four children were born to them, Dean Jr (who died in infancy), Marva Lu, NaVon and Gary R. Their marriage ended later in divorce.
He married Annie Wolfley April 2, 1935 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Four children were born to them, Deanne "W", James Walden (died in infancy), Wynlee Sue and Greer. He operated a farm near Afton until 1951 when the family moved to Logan Utah after a serious automobile accident while taking Deanne to Logan for music lessons. Dean worked for a heating company and later obtained a position as maintenance superintendent at Utah State University, which he held for 19 years before his retirement in January of this year because of his health.
During his lifetime he worked at various occupations while operating his farm. He helped to build power lines in Star Valley, as well as in other western state, and worked for the Forest Service, served as water commissioner and also did carpentry work.
He served as counselor in the 9th Ward Bishopric and also as Sunday School superintendent in the LDS Church.
Surviving are his widow of Logan; the following children, Mrs Lloyd (Marva Lu) Heiner, Bedford, Wyo.; Mrs Verl (NaVon) Cazier, Lander, Wyo,; Gary Robert Gardner, Fairfax Va.; Mrs Leron (Deanne) Johnsen, Providence, Utah; Mrs Bowen (Wynlee Sue) Call Las Vegas, Nev.; Mrs Donald (Greer) Baird, Logan, 29 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; brothers and sisters Wallace Ivan Gardner, Brigham City; Mrs Enoch (Elona) Hillyard and Mrs Elno (Laura) Draney, both of Afton, Wyo.; Mrs John A.(Bonnie) Hopkin, College station, Texas; Lloyd Gardner, Richmond, Utah; and Orrin Gardner Hazleton, Idaho.
