Note: There are all kind of dates out there for his birth. The only date I have seen is on the 1900 census. That is what I have put for his birth date, May 1826. Also on the 1900 census he said he was married for 52 years which would make his marriage year to Lavicia as 1848.

Married first: Mary Burr, daughter of Jacob and Rachel Burr. Mary was the sister of his second wife Lavicia.

John and Mary had two sons: James Washington Gardner born about 1847 and Thomas Jefferson Gardner born about 1848. I am told James died in the Civil War. I have no information on either of them or any information on their mother.

Married second: Lavicia (Vicy) Burr, daughter of Jacob and Rachel Burr.

John and Lavicia had thirteen children.

Child not linked:
Mattie Jane Gardner born about 1871
