She was born April 8, 1918 in Idaho Falls, to Solomon John and Susan Estella Billman Walker. She lived in the Idaho Falls area until her parents died. At age 12 years, she went to live with an aunt and uncle in Livingston, Mont. She attended schools in Idaho Falls and Livingston.
On June 29, 1935, she married C. L. "Ted" Chaffee at Livingston. She was a homemaker and mother for many years. For 20 years, she worked as a lab technician at Idaho Potato Growers in Idaho Falls, and then at the R. T. French Co. in Shelley. Her husband preceded her in death.
She married Neal Lewis Empey July 10, 1976, at Idaho Falls. She retired in 1978. Her second husband died April 28, 1994.
She was a member of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Flower gardening, reading and crocheting were among the activities she enjoyed.
Survivors include two sons, David L. Chaffee (wife, Fern) of Idaho Falls, and John L. Chaffee (wife, Kathy) of Billings, Mont.; a daughter, Diane S. Ascheman (husband, Steve) of Billings, Mont.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by seven sisters and eight brothers.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:30 at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Ave. in Idaho Falls, with Bishop Rob Bishop of the Idaho Falls LDS 13th Ward officiating. The family will visit with friends Thursday for one hour before the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park.
