John Aurelius "Buddy" Abbott was the son of William Henry Abbott and Sarah Frances Bloodworth Abbott. He was known as "Buddy" or "J.A." He was born on February 9, 1873 in Sardis, Panola Co, MS. He married Cecil Demarest Eavenson in Panola Co, MS on October 30, 1896. Cecil and Buddy were the parents of Lura, Willis, Henry, and Jackson. Although incorrect, for clarity I will refer to the mother as Cecile and the son as Cecil.

About 1908, Buddy's parents and several siblings moved to Dallas, Dallas Co, TX. The 1910 Federal Census shows that Buddy, Cecile, and the oldest four of their children were still in Panola Co, MS. They moved to Mount Vernon, Franklin Co, TX about 1911. The Abbott relatives recalled that Buddy died in 1913 while Cecile was supposedly pregnant with Cecil. Buddy's tombstone says he died in 1915 and the 1920 Federal Census for Mount Vernon, Franklin Co, TX says he was alive in 1920; however, he died in or before January 1913. No death certificate has been located. In actuality, Cecil was the grandson of Buddy and Cecile. Lura Abbott and an unknown father were the natural parents of Cecil. Lura and Cecile decided that, due to Lura's young age, Cecile would raise Cecil as her own son. Because Buddy was the putative father and he was very recently deceased, Cecile had to "fudge" Buddy's death date in her correspondence with relatives. Since Cecile lived in Mount Vernon and the Abbott relatives lived in Dallas, they never actually saw her when she was supposedly pregnant. Cecil was never told of his parentage, although his wife, Lois, knew. By 1930, Cecile and Cecil had moved to Malvern, Hot Spring Co, AR and were living in a boarding house. Cecile stayed in Malvern until she died in 1964. Cecil Loyd Abbott is buried in Mount Vernon City Cemetery. Findagrave Memorial #6942804 is a Cenotaph.
