Mary Short married Charles Purdue. They had eight daughters and one son. Sometime between 1813-1823, the family moved to Ross County, Ohio. During the move the second oldest daughter, Nancy died and shortly after the move Charles passed away. A short time later, Mary's only son, John, was apprenticed to an Adelphi merchant and Mary with a few of her daughters moved north and settled near Westerville, Ohio.

John Purdue born: October 31, 1802 in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania – died: September 12, 1876 was a famous industrialist based in Lafayette, Indiana and the primary original benefactor of Purdue University.
