George Mellon was known to have run a grist mill in Puckett for about 52 years. Each Saturday he and his partially blind son, J.C. would walk to the small community of Puckett and crank the old engine and grind corn until late afternoon.
A note of interest: Sometimes there is confusion because There was another George Mellon(distant relative) that ran a grist mill and sawmill in Merit, Mississippi, close to Mendenhall. It was close to Rials Creek. A water park now occupies the space according to a relative of G.M's.
