"He [John Patten Story] was married November 19, 1840, to Miss Elizabeth Quarles, daughter of a prominent citizen of Kenosha. Her sister married ex-Gov. Barstow. Her brother, Augustus Quarles, commanded a company in the Mexican war, from Kenosha, Wis., and was killed in battle at Cherubusco. They settled in the township of Brookfield in 1840, where he had bought 640 acres, and on which be lived till 1849, when he removed to the village of Waukesha, and did not thereafter engage in active business. He died March 3O, 1875, leaving five children and his worthy companion. "
