DORCHESTER,Tx - Robert Diemer Rhodes was born July 21, 1923 at W. Burlington, Des Moines, Iowa to Roy Stone Rhodes and Ruth Olive Diemer Rhodes and died Nov. 30, 2008 at Wilson N. Jones Medical Center in Sherman, Texas.
Robert is survived by his sister, Ruth Ann and her husband, Townsend Walker of Huntsville, Ala.; son, Robert D. Rhodes and wife, Rosie of San Antonio; daughters, Donna Marie and husband, Richard L. Chapman of Dorchester, and Debra K. and husband, Scott Garner of Midwest City, Okla.; grandchildren, Jennie and husband, Julian Hernandez of San Antonio, Brandy and her husband, Rolin Hernandez of La Vernia, Christina M. Chapman and Mary E. Chapman of New York, Jesse R. and Richard L. Chapman, Sarah M.D. and husband, Richard Murray, all of Dorchester, Christopher Brian Matthew Chapman and wife, Haydee of Atlanta, Ga., Jeff Garner and Pam Garner of Oklahoma; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Robert had lived in Mt. Home, Ark. for 30 years where he enjoyed golf, swimming, friends and his church, East Side Baptist Church.
He served in the U.S. Navy as a corpsman assigned to the Marines for 11 years and was wounded at Bougainville, located in the South Pacific.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008 at West Hill Cemetery in Sherman. Rev. Rick Carney of the Bones Chapel Baptist Church will officiate. An honor guard from the U.S. Naval Base in Ft. Worth will conduct military graveside honors.
