HELEN HUTCHINSON

Helen Marie (Baker) Hutchinson

Lifelong resident of New Castle, DE, was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 28, 2008, at the age of 75.

Helen, born and lived as a small child in Wilmington, DE, is the daughter of the late Benjamin Carlton Baker, Sr. and was currently residing with her daughter Karin (Hutchinson) DiGiovanni in Bear, DE. She had varied careers throughout her lifetime, and one of her first was as a cook for the "Copper Kettle" restaurant. Helen however will mostly be remembered as an employee for the A&P grocery store chain where she worked for 23 years. Helen retired from the State of Delaware as head cook for Howard Vocational Technical School at the age of 67. In her younger years Helen enjoyed summers at Rehoboth Beach with her family, dancing, entertaining and playing pinochle. Helen was an outstanding cook and she was always asked to make her "special" recipes for family gatherings. Most recently Helen enjoyed time spent with her children and grandchildren, cooking, swimming and reading mystery novels. Helen will always be remembered for her funny wit, hilarious stories and the most infectious laugh ever heard. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who had the opportunity to have their lives touched by this outstanding, loving woman.

Helen's beloved husband David R. Hutchinson, Sr. passed away in 1979. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her children whom she was devoted to and who were devoted to her, Karin (Hutchinson) DiGiovanni of Bear, DE and David R. Hutchinson, Jr. and his fiancée Kristina of Delaware City, DE; her 5 loving grandchildren, Erika Hutchinson, Lindsay Hutchinson, David R. Hutchinson III, Ryan Hutchinson and Donald DiGiovanni III, with whom she lived and helped to raise; sister, Elizabeth (Colegrove) Carey and brother, William C. Baker. Helen will also be missed by various nephews, nieces, grand-nieces and nephews, and her lifelong best friend Katherine Krakowski. Helen was especially blessed by having neighbors who were always willing to lend a hand and her family would like to say "Thank You". Helen was predeceased by her father; brothers, Benjamin Baker, Jr., Jack Baker and her sister Evelyn Baker-Evans.

Family and friends are invited to visit with Helen's family on Saturday, December 6, from 11 am to 12:30 pm at Gebhart Funeral Home of New Castle, 531 Delaware Street, New Castle, DE, (302)328-2312 and to attend her funeral service at 12:30 pm. Interment will follow in Glebe Cemetery, New Castle, DE.
