Barney Henry Demarest was born on 13 September 1850 at High Mountain in Bergen County, New Jersey to parents, Henry B. Demarest & Mary Van Houten. High mountain is a mountain on the Bergen and Passaic county line, New Jersey. The peak rises to 1,106 feet. It is part of the Ramapo Mountains.
Barney Demarest Dies ~ Sad Death of a Legendary Horseman
Barney H. Demarest, showman and horseman, 80 years old, who was for years connected with Barnum and Ringling Brothers circuses, was found dead Sunday in a small room in the offices of Basile's Band, 68 Orange street, Newark, where he had lived four years. Joseph Basile, leader of the band, who had known the dead man 25 years, has not been able to find any relatives.
