Funeral services for Overa Christine Tipton, 81, will be Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008 at the Harvey-Douglas Centennial Chapel with Reverend Jimmy May officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery.


The daughter of Clarence Leonard and Lucy Mae Walls Janes, she was born Dec. 6, 1926 at Holdenville, OK and passed away Nov. 29, 2008 at a local nursing facility.


She and Leonard Joe Tipton were married in 1943 at Gainesville, Texas, and he preceded her in death Aug. 28, 2000. She was also preceded by her parents and four sons.


A resident of this area for most of her life, she had worked as a cook and housekeeper before working for Cooks Laundry as a presser. She was a longtime member of the Trinity Baptist Church and enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening and flowers.


Survivors include her daughter-in-law Becky Tipton and two granddaughters, Mandy Goodman and Kristi Tipton, all of Ardmore; great-granddaughters, Ashley and Abbey; stepchildren, Lois Jamison, and Mac Tipton of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Leonard Ray Tipton of Enid; as well as a host of step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
