David S. Draney died on May 20, 2003 of cancer at age 37. A funeral service will be held at 12:30 at the Afton Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. There will be a viewing on Sunday, May 25 2003 from 7-9 p.m. at the Osmond Ward LDS Building. And also from 10 a.m.-noon prior to the funeral service at the Stake Center. David has requested that in Lieu of flowers, donations be made to the David Draney foundation in his memory at the Bank of Star Valley. PO Box 8007. Afton 83110 so that the money will benefit the people of Star Valley.
David was born on June 6, 1965 in Dayton, Ohio to Venda Kay Sanderson and Terryl Elmo Draney. While David grew up mostly in Bothell, Wash., he spent his summers here in Star Valley with his grandparents, Amanda and Nels Sanderson and Laura and Elmo Draney. During High School, David was involved in basketball, track and fields and in orchestra in which he played the violin. David graduated from Star Valley High School in 1983. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in south Sao Paulo, Brazil. David attended Brigham Young University on a track and field scholarship. He majored and graduated from BYU in Mathematics and Coaching. David married Carol Ray Landos of Vidor, Texas, in Salt Lake Temple on September 16, 1988. They have two children Ashli age 7 and Jaxon age 4. David was employed by Lincoln County School District #2. David loved working with the youth of Star Valley and making custom fishing rods. He had the honor of making rods for President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.
David set up the David Draney Foundation with the help of great friends to help Star Valley Residents who suffer from catastrophic circumstances.David and his family have been very blessed to have the community's support not only financially, but also spiritually, emotionally and physically. David wanted others in need to experience this as well.
David is survived by his wife Carol, his daughter Ashli, his son, Jaxon, his grandmother, Laura, all of Afton, his father, Terry., and mother Vonda, of Preston , Idaho, his brother, Kevin of st. George, Utah and his sister, Linda LeFerro of Las Vegas, Nev.
