Marshall Brown Eoff was the son of Peter Eoff and Lucy Kelly, natives of Kentucky and Virginia respectively. He was raised in St Louis County, Missouri on his father's farm. He was the oldest of eleven children and had brothers William A Eoff, Peter W Eoff, Henry W Eoff and Edward Etson Eoff. His sisters were Julianna (Eoff) Miller, Lucy Ann (Eoff) Steele, Martha Ann (Eoff) Beard, Maria Ann (Eoff) Noell, Catherine Ann "Cassie" (Eoff) McCullough and Emily Isabelle (Eoff) Sturdy.

Marshall's first marriage was to Mary A Brimer March 18, 1851 Pike County, Missouri (div). Shortly after 1860 Marshall moved to Mason County Michigan and there married
Nancy Jane Rushton January 1, 1868. They were the parents of Lucinda (Eoff) (Genson) Manchester and Henry Eoff.

Marshall made his livelihood as a farmer in Mason County Michigan. He was a Civil War veteran. He served in the Union Army being mustered in in Muskegon, Michigan September 15, 1862 as a Private in Company C 26th Regiment of Infantry. On September 1, 1863 he was transferred into the Invalid Corp and was mustered out in W. Alexandria, Virginia June 4, 1865.
