Marcia Krey

Marcia Velasquez Krey, 78, of Kansas City, Mo., went home to be with her Lord and Savior November 25, 2008, from brain cancer at North Kansas City Hospital. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. at Sheffield Family Life Center in Independence, Mo. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. prior to the service. Burial to follow at Mt. Washington Cemetery in Independence, Mo.

Marcia was born on July 11, 1930, in Kansas City, Mo., to Estanislas and Petra Candillo Velasquez. She lived in Northeast Kansas City until she married Richard Krey in 1951. They had one child, a daughter Deborah. They moved and lived in California until 1965, then returned to Northeast Kansas City, Mo., near her family, where she lived until her passing. In 1985 she lost her right hand in a job-related accident. Marcia overcame her handicap by learning to do everything with left hand, from cooking, to writing, and changing diapers. She was a loving, thoughtful, devoted sister, mother, grandmother, friend and daughter to her mother, Petra, whom she helped care for until her passing.

She had a passion for life, and she lived each day to the fullest. She enjoyed long walks, sports, singing, dancing, spending time with her family and friends and helping others in need, especially her daughter and grandchildren. Most of all she loved the Lord. Marcia attended Sheffield Family Care Center and loved Sunday school. On Tuesdays she and her sister Phyllis would go to the City Union Mission Bible Study, where she would make and serve coffee. Everyone loved her coffee. Marcia is preceded into heaven by her parents, Estanislas and Petra, two brothers, Tony and Joe, and four sisters, Felipa, Delores, Mary and Connie. She leaves behind a daughter, Deborah Bennett; a granddaughter, Amanda; two great grandchildren, Giovanni and Naomi; sister Phyllis "Felicia" Soltero; her devoted friend and companion, Pete Madrid, and many loving family and friends.

We know we have that hope of seeing her again, until then Marcia will live forever in the hearts of those who knew her and loved her. Our appreciation to the ICU medical staff at NKC Hospital who cared for Marcia through her final weeks. Also special thanks to her best friend, Pete Madrid, who was her constant companion before and during her illness. Arrangements by the Mt. Washington Forever Funeral Home, (816) 252-4141, www.forevercemeteries.com.
